Committee Meeting for October, 2005
Boy Scout Troop 100
Minutes October, 2005
A regularly scheduled meeting of the BSA Troop 100 Committee was called to order at 7:32 p.m. on October 5, 2005 by Committee Chair Art Silverman at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. The minutes from the September 7, 2005 meeting were approved unanimously.
Scoutmaster’s Report:
John Le Mon gave the Scoutmaster’s report.
1) The Troop participated in the Alzheimer’s Walk, so Scouts who participated earned 4 service hours. It was a bit disorganized, so the Troop may not participate in this event next year.
2) A recruitment meeting was held at Palisades Community Church, sponsored by Pack 61. Several Scouts went with John Le Mon to this organizational meeting and made connections with Bob Whalen, Cubmaster of Pack 100.
3) October 15-16 is the campout at Sugarloaf.
4) All Scouts are being required to earn one of the following merit badges before Thanksgiving using the resources at meritbadge.com: American Business, American Labor, Communications, Entrepreneurship, Public Speaking, and Salesmanship.
5) A new requirement for First Class, as of January 1, 2006, will be that the First Class candidates actively recruit a new scout.
6) Scouting for Food is November 2. Bags will be distributed and Scouts are encouraged to bring in at least five bags of food each.
7) Hike-O-Ree (for Scouts 13 and older) and Appalachian Trail campout are both in November.
8) The new Monsignor is working on moving us from the current Scout Room to another room closer to the Collins Room. At some point, Scouts and families will need to come move everything to the new location. Church has a new secretary, too.
Treasurer's Report:
Don Francis gave the Treasurer’s report. Don has transferred all authority from Ruth to himself. Don has indicated that the current bank is charging a fee and not providing a good interest rate. As a result, he feels we need to move the Troop checking account to another bank. Dues were set at $120 for the year last year and will remain the same for this year. Art Silverman will send out a notice to all Scout families to send in their dues by November 1, 2005. Don will also develop a budget in coordination with Art and John Le Mon. Current Balance is $9,968.
Other Business:
Chairman Art Silverman reported on Barry Woods ride through Macedonia. Barry has also contacted the pastor at 4420 River Road and received permission to hold the Christmas Tree Sale there. We have permission to sell both Saturday and Sunday if needed, must clean up completely, all church members get 10% off, we can advertise, use the church facilities, December 10, put up signage. Should also advertise in church bulletin at St. Ann’s and put up signage here to show sale there.
Harvey Newman reported on advancement. Michael Robles has earned his First Class and Alex Francisi has earned his Second Class. Lisa Hoke has volunteered to help Harvey with getting parents to sit on Boards of Review. Francesca Rey, Lisa Hoke, Amy Wooden, and Harvey Newman have volunteered to sit on the November 18, 2005 Board of Review. Michael Newman’s application for Eagle was forwarded.
Pancake Breakfast will be held the 29th of October. We need to hand out fliers for the Christmas Tree Sale at Pancake Breakfast.
Election of Officers:
Francesca Rey moved to approve the slate of officers as proposed. Ed Barber provided the second. The motion passed unanimously
The meeting was adjourned at 8:43 p.m.
Amy Wooden,
