Committee Meeting for January, 2006
Boy Scout Troop 100
Minutes January, 2006
In attendance were Don Francis, Lisa Hoke, Barry Wood, Francesca Rey, John Le Mon, Ed Barber, Ralph Wooden, Gloria Robles, and Amy Wooden.
Scoutmaster’s Report:
John Le Mon gave the Scoutmaster's report.
1) The Troop tree sale was quite successful.
2) Caroling at the nursing home was a good experience and the residents really enjoyed it.
3) Eagle Court of Honor on the 21st of December was excellent.
4) The Troop holiday party was a lot of fun, and the gifts were good gifts.
5) The Thorpewood Foundation has been contacted for permission to use the parking lot for Marsh's Farm campout, but they have not yet responded. No problem is anticipated. All parents should look at
www.thorpewood.org. They’ve had one Eagle project conducted out there, and it might be a good location for others.
6) Boys are working on merit badges selected in the fall. The idea of a "Badge Day" was discussed, where the boys could mostly complete one of the offered merit badges.
7) Marsh's Farm trip is coming up in two weeks.
8) Philmont has responded to our request for a time for a trip, and they have given us a spot on the waiting list for 2007. John will continue to talk it over with the staff at Philmont to see if there's anyway to get a confirmed spot.
9) For this summer, the PLC is still discussing possible locations for a high adventure trip.
10) The date for the PLC trip is still up in the air, pending contact with the Stoners.
11) No word from Monsignor Mosely regarding the relocation of the Scout Room to the other end of the church.
Treasurer's Report:
Don Francis gave the Treasurer's report. The balance is at approximately $14,000. This is most of the revenue for the year, except for Council Fire revenue.
Other Business:
Barry Woods reported on the Christmas Tree Sale. Only four trees didn't sell, and Barry carted those away. The target for this year was $2000.00 and with the final result being $1925. The effort required lots of work on the part of the entire troop, the marketing effort was very limited, the weather was beautiful, the congregation was very welcoming, Don Francis made copies of all the checks, the setup is somewhat limited, the trees were fairly dry when they arrived, and customers want a lot more information about the trees/prices and a wider variety. The highest profit was made the first day, the second day a few dollars less and the third day trees were being sold at or below cost. The site was cleaned up of everything but the needles. The supplier indicated we can order 75 and still have them delivered. Should we put up lights, should we get more variety, should we put up more racks to let the trees fluff out, should we sort the trees, should we get more wreaths? All the checks have been copied, so we can market to that group of people. Amy Wooden will be sending a note to the River Road church thanking them for their incredible support.
Council Fire sales were discussed in terms of Scout and parent efforts. Lisa Hoke and Amy Wooden will put out the mailing to start off the campaign.
A Gateway computer has been donated to the Troop to keep track of the records and conduct Troop business.
Scout Sunday will be low key.
The Troop will be planning on a service project at Marsh's Farm to help several boys with their "Fifty Miler" award.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:38 p.m.
Amy Wooden,
Committee Secretary
