Committe Meeting for October, 2006

Boy Scout Troop 100
Minutes October 11, 2006

A regularly scheduled meeting of the BSA Troop 100 Committee was called to order at 7:41 p.m. on October 11, 2006 by Committee Chair Art Silverman at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. In attendance were Art Silverman, Lisa Hoke, Barry Wood, Don Francis, Gloria Robles, John Le Mon, John Cates, and Amy Wooden.

Minutes from the September 12 meeting were read and approved.

The proposed slate of officers was approved as proposed.

Treasurer’s Report:

Don still needs to send out an e-mail to collect the rest of the dues from those families who haven’t paid for this year, yet. $736.75 was collected last week from Pancake Breakfast ticket sales.

General Business:

Thanks to Steve Kunk, the Troop website, www.centurytroop.com, now has a slide show of the Troop experience at Goshen. In addition, Steve is suggesting we accept advertising on our website from some of our best advertisers (such as HTO).

Art is asking all parents at the Pancake Breakfast to take pictures, as he will not be there.

Barry Wood reported that he explored buying trees from local growers in Maryland, which may not work if they will not deliver the trees to us. The grower we bought from last year has sent us a pre-order form with a fairly significant price increase (for the second year in a row). We need to hand out fliers at the Pancake Breakfast this year. Art will approach River Road Presbyterian Church to see if we can sell the trees there. Gloria Robles volunteered to make a flier for the tree sale to be handed out at the Pancake Breakfast. The tree sale will be held December 9 and 10. Barry will do a bit more research and get back to Art within ten days. We will add some noble firs and Frasier firs to the mix and keep the wreaths at the same level. We also need to mail out fliers to all those who paid by check last year for their tree at the sale. Lisa will be sending a letter to all the Council Fire advertisers with two free tickets for the Pancake Breakfast. In the same vein, we should mail a letter to past tree buyers advertising the Pancake Breakfast.

Scoutmaster’s Report:

1. The next event is the Pancake Breakfast. Tonight’s turnout is low, so the ticket sales are most likely going to be a bit slow. Those helping with setup need to be at the Church at 5:00 p.m. and should be finished by 6:30 p.m., in order to accommodate a scheduled dance by St. Ann’s Academy. Everyone needs to be here at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday to setup for the breakfast.

2. November 3, 4, and 5 is the Hike-O-Ree weekend. The Troop will be leaving as soon after school as is possible. 4:30 is the estimated time of departure. Boys will need a bag lunch. Eligible boys are: Matthew Bond, Alex Francisis, Scott Hoke, Josh Noel, Manuel and Michael Robles, Rafael Suarez. The National BSA determine the minimum age and rank requirements for this type of trip. John Le Mon, John Cates, and Steve Kunk will be going along as the leaders on this trip.

3. This weekend’s camping trip begins at 7:00. All boys should be here no later than that.

4. The two church Sextons have installed the shelving in the new Troop room. All families are being asked to come on the 21st starting at 9:00 a.m. to help relocate all the stuff from the old Troop room to the new Troop room.

5. John will be sending out a new calendar with changes to some of the December events. The tree sale and the campout will be swapping dates.

6. Philmont will be changing the way they do the reservations. This should enable the Troop to plan on a trek in 2008. Yeah! John will take care of the online registration for this year. Deposits for this trek will be due in January, 2007.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
