A regularly scheduled meeting of the BSA Troop 100 Committee was called to order at 7:37 p.m. on May 2, 2007 by Committee Chair Art Silverman at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. In attendance were Art Silverman, Gloria Robles, Amy Wooden, Don Francis, John Le Mon, Ralph Wooden, Lisa Hoke, Rudy Cassasola, Steve Comer, Mike Kirkpatrick, and Dotty McCarthy. John Maxwell, Tara Bishop and Carol Bishop, Elizabeth Gross and Donna Gregory, new parents, were visiting.

The minutes from the May meeting were read and approved.

Treasurer’s Report:

Don Francis indicated he has been looking at the pattern of spending over the last year, and it seems to be a bit higher than the previous year. He plans to keep an eye on it. We still have a couple of outstanding payments for Goshen

Scoutmaster’s Report:

1) The Appalachian Trail trip was cancelled due to a lack of parents to pick up the kids and bring them back.

2) We have two boys going to IMPESA, the national training camp. The Troop is paying for this, well over $500, but the boys will come back as trained leaders.

3) The dates for Goshen are now officially June 30 to July 7. Information on this trip will be available on the website soon. The Troop will leave at 9:00 a.m. after packing. Marriott now has a new Camp Director and Program Director. Boys will need a bag lunch and money for dinner Saturday night in Lexington and also breakfast on Sunday morning. They now have online check-in, which allows for early arrival.

4) We do have a campout this weekend to Antietam. Scouts have responded to their Patrol Leaders, so we’re not sure how many Scouts are going this weekend. The boys are to be here at 7:00 a.m. to get ready.

5) The Troop is planning to go to Gettysburg in the fall, and also the Banneker District Camporee.

6) The Troop/Pack Picnic was a lot of fun and the Troop feted John’s accomplishment of the Silver Beaver.

7) John recounted the awarding of his Silver Beaver at the Council Business Meeting, including a slideshow of his life.
8) The next Committee meeting is likely to be the first or second Wednesday after Labor Day.

9) The Troop is planning a High Adventure trip on the Appalachian Trail in August for those boys who are 13 or older.

10) Art and John discussed some of the Fall events to let the new parents have a taste of Troop life.

Advancement Report:

Ralph gave a report on Advancement. Since the last committee meeting, we had the District dinner, where John Cates received the District Award of Merit. Gloria Robles was on the planning committee for the dinner, and Art Silverman won a door prize. John Cates also was awarded the Cub Scouter Award. Amy Wooden was awarded the Boy Scout Leader’s Training Award. John Le Mon was awarded the Boy Scout Leader’s Training Award. Last night, Peter Bielak received the Boy Scout Leader’s Training Award, the Scoutmaster’s Key Award, and the Round Table Staff Award. Francis McCarthy has earned his Tenderfoot award. Nick Francisi has earned First Class since last month, when he received his Second Class.

Special Request from District:

District Commissioner John Maxwell spoke about finding a location for the District Commissioner’s to meet, and asked if it would be possible to use the St. Ann’s facility. The District Camporee in 2008 will be October 16. John doesn’t know about the date for this year’s fall Camporee. The Committee approved a motion to invite the District’s Commissioner staff to meet in the Troop Room on the second Wednesday of each month.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:29 p.m. to attend the Court of Honor.

Amy Wooden,
Committee Secretary
