April 7, 2010
In attendance: Donald Francis, Olivia Baker, Melanie Giordano, Elizabeth Gross, Dottie McCarthy, Sheldon Ray, Vicki Burns, Joel Hemphill, Mike Kirkpatrick, Ralph Wooden, John LeMon, Tara Bishop
Minutes recorded by Tara Bishop
· Vicki Burns and Joel Hemphill visited from Troop 61.
Treasurer’s Report by Donald Francis
· Council Fire - $2650 gross before expenses. Elizabeth said no expenses will be submitted. May be a bit more income from ads.
· $11,500 current balance
· Reminder of upcoming costs (per scout): $20 for parade, $365 for Goshen, unknown for Adirondacks. Order of Arrow payment is $40
Dottie
· Thanked Elizabeth for her work on Council Fire. Thanked Mary Beth Ray for flowers.
· Is anyone interested in attending Nationals vs. White Sox on Father’s Day? It is an official Scout day at Nationals Stadium. Dottie will email parents to see if there is any interest.
· Expressed need for Transportation Subcommittee – not fair for John to be trying to find drivers for camping trips - and especially not fair that he drove on the last trip (since he did not stay). Elizabeth Gross suggested this be a “subcommittee team” and suggested we look at the calendar in Sept and have families choose trips where they can drive. It is a good way for some parents who cannot take on other Scout jobs to participate in the troop.
Scout Master’s Report
· Appalachian Trail trip – report by Mike Kirkpatrick. Troop left on time Saturday morning. On the trail by 10:15 AM. Drove to Pennsylvania and hiked down – ate lunch on the state line. Fairly easy hike – just one tough section. Weather was great = most everybody slept out. Back at St Ann’s on time. Johnny Casasola was welcomed into the troop.
· Walter Reed Sunrise Service – great turnout and the boys were great. They took up the collection. Lots of positive feedback. Possibly only one or two more opportunities to do this as Walter Reed will be closing.
· May 5th will be next Court of Honor. Boys should be reading their books. The boys need to be encouraged to focus on the merit badges.
· West Point – last weekend of the month. This is a Troop 100 tradition and we have at least one more year while Manuel Robles is still there. We want that saber!
· May – Parent/Son campout. Same facility as last year.
· Order of the Arrow – John Le Mon and some of the boys were elected. Trip is weekend of April 16th. Depart on Friday at 4:30 and return mid day on Sunday. Boys should bring a dinner for Friday night.
· Ralph Wooden spoke more about Order of the Arrow – it is a service organization for boys to be involved in scouting beyond their troop. Gives older boys opportunity for leadership. Boys are elected by other boys in their troop. Opportunity for this group to really grow. DC Chapter of OA was not active – now they have regained momentum.
· BSA Year of Celebration patch – Ralph discussed the patch and how the boys can work to earn ribbons for the patch. (Service, Achievement, Character, Outdoors, Leadership)
· John mentioned that a Scouting Executive from Orange County, CA is coming on board (National BSA)
· 11 scouts are confirmed for Adirondacks trip
· Transportation to West Point could be problematic – may need to rent another van (for Goshen too). Also – we discussed investing in another hitch for John’s truck to haul a bigger trailer. We voted YES to go ahead and purchase the new hitch.
· We have a Star scout from Troop 666 joining our troop.
· We could get more scouts coming in to the troop after the Blue and Gold.
· Currently 28 boys are going to Goshen.
· Matt Bond is working towards completing his Eagle project.
· Jamboree – John was asked to be First Assistant Scoutmaster for the national Jamboree. He was honored to have been selected, but he had to decline.
