Site 1 - 25 camper limit

Site 2 - 15 camper limit

 

Directions – North on 95 or the Baltimore Washington Parkway to MD Rt. 198. Travel east approx. 2. mi. past the BW parkway. Turn right at the marked entrance to the refuge at Bald Eagle Road.  Follow Bald Eagle Rd to visitor contact station (VCS) to register and get information on hiking trails and directions to the campsite.

 

Hike from the VRC to the camp site is approx 3 ½ miles (flat on road). Turn right on the road leaving the VRC to reach camp site.  The site is in the southern part of Ft.Meade, and is managed by Fish and Wildlife Service.

 

 

Site Rules

 

·        Fire Policy – Open fire allowed in designated areas. Use stoves or bring wood. Do not use downed wood.

·        Water – Do not use river water. Water is available from the spigot behind the VCS which is not in walking distance. Patrols need to bring jerry jugs

·        Dishwashing –  KP sites must be 100’ from river, use biodegradable soap

·        Sanitation – Porta Johns are provided and are to be used. Food must be kept in closed containers.  All trash must be packed out so  bring trash bags

Patrol Items need for Patuxent Trip

 

-Jerry jugs – water comes from a spigot - we are not to use river water

-Biodegradable soap for KP (must be 100’ from river)

-Trash bags– all trash must be packed out

-Fire wood – if we want a campfire we have to bring wood, because this is a wildlife refuge we are not to collect downed wood

Closed containers for food storage – because of the number of animals around
